Last updated: 16 October 2026
Worthless Assets (Pty) Ltd (registration no. 2026/359356/07) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and our contact channels, why we collect it, and how we protect it, in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Who we are
Worthless Assets (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for your personal information. Our Information Officer is Derrick Roper. You can contact us at [YOUR EMAIL].
What we collect
When you request a quote or contact us, we collect the information you choose to give us:
- your name, company, email address and phone or WhatsApp number
- your country and city
- details and photos of the material you want to sell
- anything else you include in your message
Our website host also collects standard technical information, such as your browser type and pages visited, using cookies. This helps the site work and shows us how it is used.
Why we use it
- to respond to your enquiry and give you a quote
- to arrange, record and complete any deal we agree
- to meet our legal obligations, including record-keeping required for buying second-hand goods and metals
- to improve our website and services
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send you marketing unless you ask us to.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only where needed to do business with you:
- service providers that run our website, email and messaging (for example Squarespace and WhatsApp)
- transport and logistics partners, when we arrange collection
- authorities, where the law requires it
When we share details of your material with potential buyers, we do not share your contact details without your agreement.
Information stored outside South Africa
Some of our service providers store information on servers outside South Africa, including in the United States. We use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry information for as long as needed to respond and follow up. Where a deal goes ahead, we keep transaction records for the period the law requires. After that, we delete or anonymise them.
How we protect it
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Only people who need it to do their work can see it.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- confirm what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy
- correct or update it
- delete it, where we are not required to keep it
- stop using it for a particular purpose
To do any of these, email [YOUR EMAIL]. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
